I'm in love. With my camera. I had so much fun playing around with it today now that I have a decent sized memory card...
I used both my nephew and my pooch as guinea pigs. The top image of each is how they looked straight off the memory card. It was getting later in the evening when I shot them, so clearly not optimum lighting. My brother was also holding my nephew, so the lighting and the angle were both terrible. I tried using the setting "Sleeping faces" and this was the best one of the bunch. Caysee is not so much a fan of my camera and looked traumatized in the majority of my shots. I randomly used the "portrait" setting. Again, even my amateur eye can see that I didn't have enough light for this picture.
I have a peach of a friend who has installed Photoshop for me, so I'm learning how to play around with that. Below the original image(s), is an edited version. I don't think it's too shabby for a first time attempt, though I'm not sure I like the edited version of my nephew.

I GOT IT!
It arrived today. ECSTATIC! While the battery was charging, I read the manual... and am now more confused than ever. Just a lot of new terminology!
The battery goes in, I format my memory card, I go to take pictures... My memory card can hold 4 pictures. Talk about fail. I'll clearly be purchasing a more substantial card than the default one that came with my old Canon. Tomorrow (obviously). Thanks, tax refund!
My first subject: the nephew. I doubt he knows what he's in for... my little guinea pig!
Until then!

Complete Noob
I just won a Nikon d3000 (thanks, ebay!) and I know nothing about it, or about taking pictures, or what ISO means/are/is... It's my intent to write about my journey in becoming a photographer. You'll find my experiences, some photos, my frustrations, my loves... my explorations.
I'm very VERY excited to start this journey. And I'm excited to share it online.
My camera was shipped out yesterday.
Write more when it finally gets here...
